"Balance and Trivia"
It was a short week, but a good one! On Monday the students got into groups, and became "experts" on one particular topic of our anatomy unit. They did a great job of getting up in front of the class (public speaking is an on-going theme here in LEAD...), and demonstrating what they knew in order to help the rest of the class study for that particular topic. Our work-out theme for the week was balance, and Monday's turf session was filled with a variety of balance exercises that were both fun and challenging.
On Tuesday we played a trivia game as we continued to review for our quiz. With a class of very active kids, trivia can get pretty competitive :) Team "Lob City" took the number one spot! Then off we went to the Wellness Room. Our Wellness room sessions this week incorporated a lot of what we worked on last week, but with the addition of new and more challenging exercises. They are all very focussed on making sure their technique is correct, which is fantastic to see.
On Wednesday, Esa introduced his Leadership Activity called "Helium Stick". The objective was to work together as a group to lower the tent pole to the ground, using only two fingers. It was definitely an activity that required communication and teamwork, but they eventually found a way to work together to get it down (hooray!). We then did the "Tower challenge". The students were in groups of three, given 4 pieces of paper and a 6" piece of masking tape, with the challenge of creating the tallest tower. Team Red pulled through by a couple centimetres, with Green #2 almost beating them to it (there was a bit of controversy over having to move it...close one). It was a great exercise that forced them to be not only creative, but also work as a team for a common goal. Plus, it was fun seeing what everyone came up with. :)
Happy Spring Break everyone!
