"First Aid and Obstacle Courses"
We started the week with a 2 day Emergency First Aid/CPR C course at the Yukon College. The students did great, and everyone passed! The course in itself involved a lot of CPR role playing scenarios, making slings for fake injuries, bandaging up classmates, and understanding how to react to specific situations. We even went outside at one point to make it even more realistic. Good job everyone!
On Thursday, the students were given the opportunity to become the teachers. They were split up into 4 different stations, and taught the current grade nines some of their favourite exercises that they've learned in LEAD thus far. It was a good chance for them to not only talk about what the program has to offer, but also an opportunity to become the instructor. It's great to see them stepping up, and not being afraid to talk in front of a group or their peers. Then, since it was Thursday, off we went to Gymnastics! Gymnastics is always fun, but this particular day was awesome. They were split up in teams and had to create a section of an obstacle course for the whole class. It was both creative, and exhausting! From handstands, to front handsprings, to round-offs off the beam, to a crazy run/jump up the wall, they certainly challenged themselves. However, Team 2 prevailed with the fastest time through the course. (It was pretty close though...).
