"Trail runs and track meets"
It was a pretty hot day for our Millennium trail run on Monday, but they powered through. Jack, Esa and Chris made it in just under 26 minutes, with the rest not too far behind. We cooled down with a bit of beach volleyball, and called it a day. Great start to the week!
We were in the wellness room on Tuesday and Wednesday, and they have started to become more independent with their workouts. Now that they know the basic technique they are able to get right into the exercise without hesitation, and start challenging themselves to do it perfectly.
During our seminars this week we started talking about vitamins and minerals. Why are they important? Where can you find them? The students did a great job of presenting information about them to the class. We also had two leadership activities this week, with Isaiah and Jack both doing theirs on Wednesday. Isaiah's was called "Chopsticks", with the objective being to knock your opponent out of the game through numbers and strategy. He organized everyone in a tournament, and it just so happened that he won it. Thanks, Isaiah! Jack presented us with a different version of "Landmine" for his activity. The objective was to race past objects without hitting them, and work together to get the lowest time. The tricky part is that your blindfolded, and you're trusting in your teammate to communicate where to go. Thanks, Jack! There were also a few Arctic Sports presentations this week. Tayla and Isaiah presented information about the Muskox Fight (they were both the strongest at that one, so it made sense that they chose it!), and Trygg and Chyanne presented the Wrist Hang. Great job overall.
On Friday, we were very fortunate to be able to assist the FH Collins Sports School host the Elementary School Track Meet. Both groups were fantastic role models for the younger kids, as the day went extremely smooth and everyone had a lot of fun.
