"Yoga and speeches"
After a rainy long-weekend, the students came back and started the week off strong. On Tuesday, we took the time to review how we thought the bake sale went. This was an essential part of the process, as this feedback will help them with future fundraising events. We talked about what went well, what did not go as planned, and what we can improve on for next time. The bake sale in itself was a success, but that they still have room for improvement in terms of the planning process.
Teah also introduced us to her leadership activity on Tuesday. It was almost like group charades, except you had to act out a scenario without talking, and the other team had to guess it correctly to get a point. My favourite was "Bear in the woods!". Thanks, Teah! Afterwards, we went off to the wellness room where I introduced them to our final olympic lift; the snatch. Overall, it was a great Tuesday back after the long weekend.
Wednesday was a bit different, as we stayed at PCSS for the day. Sam introduced us to her leadership activity involving spoons and chalk (with the original plan being spoons and skittles). However, chalk worked just as well! The objective of the game was to pass the chalk with only your spoon, and race the other team to the cups at the end of the line. Sounds easy, but once they started laughing that spoon in their mouth started shaking, and the chalk was on the ground before they knew it. Overall, there was some interesting technique to say the least! Thanks, Sam!

Since Wednesday is our Leadership day, we did another public speaking activity. The students blew my mind with how confident they have become speaking in front of their peers. They had one minute to stand up in front of the class, and talk about whatever they wanted (ie. what they did on the weekend, a funny story from their past, what they plan on doing after high school, etc). It was so amazing to see their personalities come out in their speech, and how well they were able to do it.
We were also able to fit Raymond's Leadership activity in that day. We started off in a circle, with one target in the middle, and two people shielding him/her for protection. The objective of the games was to work together as a group to pass the plush ball around and hit the target, while the shield protects him/her. Thanks, Raymond! We finished the day with agility ladders, and a yoga strength session. With the majority of the students having done yoga before, it was a great way to end the day.
Along with being introduced to more Dene Games/Arctic Sports on Friday with Teena Dickson, the students also started their arctic sports presentations this week.
