"Millennium trail and front hand springs"
It finally feels like spring! Which also means we can start going outdoors a lot more. On Monday we ran the 5k Millennium trail (although one student must have had a great breakfast that day because he decided to do it twice!). A few students were getting recognized for their participation in the 2014 Arctic Winter Games, and met us at the start of the trail just as we were finishing. Off they went for their run (along with the one that decided to do it twice.). It was a nice sunny day, which always helps, and upon completion of the run the plan was to play some touch football. This quickly turned into a game of 500 Jackpot as the grass wasn't as dry as I hoped it was...which also makes for an interesting game of Jackpot. Only one student fell in the wet/mucky grass. Not too bad! Overall it was a fantastic start to the week.
On Tuesday we continued watching Chapter 3 of Food Inc., with the focus question being "Who's responsible for keeping our food safe?". It's great to see the students starting to become more opinionated and confident talking to the class during the discussions. Then, off we went to the wellness room to practice some of the same Olympic lifting techniques that were taught last week.
Chris presented his Leadership Activity on Wednesday called Landmine. The objective was to help your blindfolded partner walk through the "landmine" without stepping on any "mines" aka. cones and pinnies. This required a lot of communication and trust, and was a great choice of an activity. Thanks, Chris!
During Wednesday's session in the wellness room we did more of a conditioning workout. They accepted the challenge (I think because they knew a 4 day weekend was coming up), and did a fantastic job.
Thursday's Gymnastic session was very fun to watch. A few of them were able to do front hand springs, and it's obvious their handstands and pull-overs are improving.
